The Best Texas Winter Activities

There’s much more to the Lone Star State than meets the eye, even in the dead of winter. Whether you’re passing through or whether you’re a resident looking for something new to try there are plenty of Texas winter activities to put on your calendar. Here are some of our favorites.

Stroll Along the River

Even though Christmas is over, there’s still plenty of time to enjoy some lovely light displays. San Antonio’s River Walk leaves its light up into January, and even without them it’s a beautiful place to take a stroll and explore, catch a show at the theatre or even take a boat ride.

Visit a Beach

Beaches don’t just have to be for summertime, and there are plenty of great year-round options in Texas. Visit somewhere well known like Corpus Christi or find your own smaller coastal town to explore. Even when the water’s cold, you’re sure to find lots to do, from collecting shells to fishing.

Catch Some Rainbow Trout

Speaking of fishing, there are lots of opportunities for it all throughout the state. And it may come as a surprise to some fishers that Texas is a great place to find rainbow trout. Portions of the Guadalupe River near Austin and Canyon Lake, offer year-round, rainbow trout-friendly temperatures that promise to provide you with plenty of opportunities to take one home, no matter when you visit.
