How to Prepare Your Car for Winter

Winter can be a rough time for a lot of people. The cold, the early sunsets … and guess what? Cars don’t much care for it either. It’s important to go through a checklist and do what you can to prepare your car for winter. Here’s what you should do.

Check Your Battery

Have your battery tested to see that it’s still going strong. An older battery may run fine in the warmer weather, but come winter it will be a different story. Cold weather and older car batteries are not friends. And the last thing you want is to be looking for a jump in the middle of your Christmas shopping!

Check Your Tires

Similar to batteries, tires may not do quite as well in colder weather either. Keep an eye on your tire pressure as they tend to lose some air when the weather turns crisp. Also, check that your tires still have good tread. Good tread and proper inflation are important for safe driving on the ice and snow.

Get a Check Up

You may just want to get a check up before the heavy winter starts. Your mechanic can check your fluids, brakes, and wheel alignment, which are all important for safe winter driving. He or she can also make sure your defrosters and heaters are working well. No one likes a cold car ride!
