Ford Shares Surveillance Mode Technology to Keep Law Enforcement Safe

Ford has announced that it is offering its award-winning Surveillance Mode technology to other vehicle manufacturers and the military to help keep our law enforcement officers safe. This technology was first introduced in the 2014 Ford Police Interceptor and provides another line of defense for officers.

The system uses a rearview camera and radar to detect when a person is approaching the police vehicle from the rear. It then alerts the officer with a chime, automatically rolls up the driver’s side window, locks all doors, and flashes exterior lighting. Watch this short video to see how it works.

“We want to assist with and improve the security of all police officers—whether they are using a Ford Police Interceptor or a competitive vehicle,” said Randy Freiburger, Ford police and ambulance special vehicle engineering supervisor, in a statement. “Combining existing Ford technologies with the development of a new control module and software has created an innovative system that improves security for police officers while they are in their vehicles.”

Recently, Ford’s Surveillance Mode technology earned the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executive’s Award for improving the safety of police officers.

Here at Pegues Hurst Ford, we are proud to see Ford sharing this potentially life-saving technology with their competitors in the interest of protecting those who protect us.
