Ford Receives Golden Gear Award for More Than a Century of Innovation

For 111 years, Ford Motor Company has played an integral role in transforming not only the way people move, but the way people live. The company and its founder, known as much for his revolutionary ideas as his products are for transforming the way we move, were honored with Washington Automotive Press Association’s Golden Gear Award.

Jim Holland, vice president of Vehicle Components and Systems Engineering for Ford, received the award for the company at the Association’s 30th Anniversary Gala.

“On behalf of all the men and women of Ford Motor Company, I’d like to thank the Washington Automotive Press Association for the Golden Gear Award,” he said. “Henry Ford left us with quite a legacy, and the Ford team continues driving innovation through every part of our business to improve people’s lives. This is what has always defined us as a company. Through innovation, we are changing the way the world moves.”

In addition to Henry Ford’s crazy ideas like the moving assembly line and doubling employees’ wages, Ford’s more recent inventions have helped to improve customers’ lives as well. For instance, the EcoBoost engine, which recently passed the 5-million milestone in production, is keeping drivers on the road for longer and saving them money on gas. Advanced safety technologies, like the industry-first inflatable rear safety seats, are becoming a new standard in safe travel.
