Ford Helps DTE Energy Build Largest Solar Array in Michigan

Ford is no longer just focusing on creating eco-friendly vehicles—they’re now working with DTE Energy to build the largest solar array in Michigan and the second largest solar carport in the Midwest. The American carmaker recently announced that this new project will provide employees with 360 covered parking spaces and 30 charging stations for plug-in vehicles, making it easier than ever before for Ford employees to go green.

“Ford has a long history of innovation and a deep commitment to sustainability,” said Bill Ford, executive chairman of Ford Motor Company. “Our fundamental purpose as a company is to make people’s lives better. We do that by creating outstanding products, by investing in communities where our employees live and work, and by using technology to tackle global sustainability challenges. Those beliefs are embodied in this project.”

This solar carport is expected to generate an estimated 1.13 million kilowatt-hours annually, which is the equivalent of enough energy to power 158 average-sized homes for a year. With this electricity, Ford will be able to lesson the amount of electricity the company uses from the grid to run its offices.
