The 2015 F-150; The Best Yet

2015 ford f-150

When you’re the thirty-seven-year-and-counting grand champion of American truck manufacturing (not to mention the 32 year-strong titleholder of Best Selling Vehicle in America), it seems entirely plausible that you could take your latest model, slap the latest model year number on the grille, and call it your newest and most innovative product.  However, Ford hasn’t gotten where it has with the F-Series by simply settling for the status quo: it’s that constant quest to improve upon a winning formula that keeps them positioned comfortably at No. 1.

The latest and greatest in the line, the 2015 Ford F-150 made its highly-anticipated debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) this week.  Truly, the updated version of the most popular car or truck in the United States benefits from more than simple clever window dressing; the new F-150 is all-new from top to bottom, and the difference will be clear from the moment you get behind the wheel.

“F-150 is well-known for being Built Ford Tough. Now, it is both tough and smart,” said Mark Fields, Ford Motor Company chief operating officer, in the automaker’s press release. “The all-new F-150 redefines the future of trucks, and it is yet another example of our One Ford plan producing vehicles that serve customers with a commitment to the very best quality, fuel efficiency, safety, smart design and value.”

The new F-150 is indeed the most durable of all, thanks to the increased presence of high-strength steel and high-strength aluminum alloys in its frame.  This not only enabled the 2015 F-150 to withstand more than 10 million miles of road testing (including a covert performance at the 2013 Baja 1000), but, with the addition of  military-grade aluminum alloys in the body, allows it to improve significantly from a performance and efficiency perspective with more than 700 pounds of total weight shed.

Also tested at the Baja 1000 and contributing to the 2015 F-150’s potential for better fuel economy is the all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine, which features a number of new features to set it apart from its EcoBoost predecessors.  These include fracture split main-bearing caps, aluminum cylinder heads, water-cooled integrated exhaust manifolds, and a durable composite intake manifold.

Additionally, the 2015 Ford F-150 will be the smartest F-Series truck ever built with the help of a wide array of features never-before seen in a pickup.  Features including 8” productivity screen, Active Park Assist, LED sideview mirror, and inflatable rear safety belts ensure that Ford pickup drivers will enjoy not just the durability they should expect from an F-150, but also the safety, comfort, and convenience they deserve as American consumers.
